DIY Yarn Tassels

Thanksgiving is coming up soon, which typically means that people have already started putting up their Christmas trees and taking their holiday decor out from storage. This year, it being Nick and I's first Christmas on our own, our goal was to make our decor as minimal and budget-friendly as possible. (Budgeting: a definite adult growing-pain, am I right?)

Because of this, I decided to make my own ornaments & garlands! So let's begin with the basics, as I show you a step by step DIY guide for making your own yarn tassels.

What You'll Need:

  • Yarn (choose whatever colors & whatever material you'd like)
  • Scissors
  • A book to wrap the yarn around (you could also use your arm or anything remotely rectangular)

1. Wrap the yarn around the length of the book, at least 7 wrap-arounds (more if you want thicker tassels)

2. Gently remove the bundle from the book.

3. Tie a string around the center of the bundle.

4. Fold the bundle in half at the center

5. Tie a piece of string around the head of the tassel (however far down the tassel you'd like)

6. At the bottom ends of the tassel, cut at the folds so the ends are no longer connected

7. Trim & enjoy your little tassels! Repeat as many times as you would like

I made these yarn tassels myself, along with dried orange slices (follow-up DIY post for those, coming soon!) I made a total of 30 tassels and dried approximately 60 slices of oranges, which yielded enough supplies to make 2 garlands for around the house, a bunch of ornaments for the tree, and leftover oranges for accessorizing presents with. These are some great DIY ideas to make your Christmas a budget-friendly one; enjoy!
